JAKARTA, investor.id – President Joko Widodo inaugurated the Temef Dam on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, in the South Central Timor (TTS) regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province. On this occasion, the Head of State highlighted how vital the role of water is in supporting the lives and well-being of the inhabitants of NTT, particularly for the agricultural sector.
“Water is an essential element that we need every day. “Especially in NTT, water is very important, very vital,” President Jokowi said on Wednesday (02/10/2024).
He explained that with water, people in NTT could grow rice, corn, cassava and other products. Water availability is also key to prosperity in this province, which is why the government has built four large dams in NTT over the past 10 years.
“Over the past 10 years, the government has built 4 dams in NTT: one: Rotiklot, two: Raknamo, three: Napun Gete, and currently the Temef Dam in south-central Timor,” President Jokowi said .
The Temef Dam was built in 2017 at a total cost of IDR 2.7 trillion, has an area of 298 hectares and is capable of retaining up to 45 million cubic meters of water. This dam is expected to bring great benefits to farmers, particularly for the irrigation of 4,200 hectares of agricultural land in the region.
“This will be able to hold 45 million cubic meters of water, which is very large and will be very beneficial for farmers to plant rice, corn, cassava, etc. “, said President Jokowi.
In addition to supporting the agricultural sector, this dam will also help reduce flooding in South Central Timor Regency and Malacca Regency. The president also called for this dam to be well managed by the regional government to improve the well-being of the community.
“I entrust the Regent to make full use of the Temef Dam for prosperity, for the well-being of our people in South Central Timor and also the surrounding community,” President Jokowi said.
