BBC cancels prime-time interview with Boris Johnson after reporter's gaffe – POLITICO
“As I prepared to interview Boris Johnson tomorrow, I mistakenly sent him our briefing notes in a message to my team,” Kuenssberg wrote on. “This obviously means it is not appropriate for the interview to take place.
“It’s very frustrating, and there’s no point in pretending that it’s anything other than embarrassing and disappointing, because there are a lot of important questions to ask.”
Kuenssberg was previously the BBC's political editor and now presents the corporation's flagship Sunday morning political programme.
The BBC News press team tweeted that the gaffe made an interview “untenable” and that “the BBC and Mr Johnson's team agreed this was the best way forward”.
Johnson would likely have faced questions over proroguing Parliament during the Brexit process, his handling of the Covid-19 pandemic and whether he would resign as an MP in June 2023 after a parliamentary committee found that he misled the House of Commons over allegations of lockdown parties in Downing Street.
“Unleashed” was serialized in the Daily Mail with numerous revelations, including the cause of the late Queen Elizabeth II's death and Johnson's belief that French President Emmanuel Macron was trying to give the United Kingdom a ” punishment” for leaving the EU.
