Tabraiz Shamsi withdraws from CSA's central contract
The left-arm wrist spinner decided to opt out of the contract to focus on franchise cricket
On October 3 (Wednesday), Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced that Tabraiz Shamsihad has withdrawn from the ongoing central contract with immediate effect. The left-arm wrist spinner last played for South Africa in the 2024 T20 World Cup final, following which he featured in various franchise competitions.
CSA added that by opting out of the central contract, Shamsi can be flexible in terms of his availability in the various franchise leagues around the world, while still being available for the national team.
I have decided to terminate my central contract to be more flexible during the domestic season so that I can explore all available options and provide for my family in the best possible way, Shamsi said when terminating the contract.
This in no way affects my ability or motivation to play for the Proteas and I will always be available to play for my country when required. It has always been my dream to bring the World Cup to South Africa, and no franchise competition will ever be more important than playing for my country.
The Titans also fully support my decision, and I will be part of the Titans squad when I am available. I want to thank Enoch Nkwe, Rob Walter and Dr. Jacques Faul for their advice, support and open communication during this process.
On the other hand, CSA's Director of Cricket, Enoch Nkwe, insisted that the board appreciated Shami's honesty in terminating the contract.
