Palace explains what Jokowi means by often apologizing towards the end of his term

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) recently apologized several times during his meetings with the people, towards the end of his mandate. Palace explained the purpose of his apology to demonstrate humility in the face of the shortcomings of his tenure as president.
“President Joko Widodo showed humility and courage to directly apologize for the imperfections during his term,” said Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media at the Presidential Secretariat, Yusuf Permana, to journalists, Thursday (03/10/2024).
Yusuf believed that Jokowi had repeatedly apologized during his direct meetings with the population. This also reflects the policies implemented so far.

“The series of apologies he has made on various occasions and places shows his seriousness in thinking about the policies that have been implemented,” he said.
“It is an attitude that demonstrates integrity, political acumen and a deep concern for the responsibilities exercised as head of state,” Yusuf continued.
The apology, Yusuf said, also proves Jokowi's good direct relationship with the people. According to him, Jokowi demonstrates strong principles of transparency and accountability while leading.
“The direct apologies presented at various important times and in various regions also reflect a direct relationship with the people and show a sense of empathy. It is his commitment to the strong principles of transparency and accountability in his leadership,” a- he declared.
Jokowi is known to apologize often before his term ends on October 20. Jokowi apologized directly to the people during a working visit to the region.
