SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Rookie Hernan Lopez scored a goal in each period and the San Jose Earthquakes knocked FC Dallas out of playoff contention with a 3-2 win on Wednesday night.

San Jose (6-23-3) took a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when Lopez used assists from Christian Espinoza and rookie defenseman Bruno Wilson to score. This is the 14th assist of the season for Espinoza, matching his career high two seasons ago. It was Wilson's third assist in 12 games.

Alan Velasco pulled Dallas (10-15-7) even in the first period when he scored in the 41st minute on assists from first-year forward Petar Musa — his third — and Paul Arriola — his seventh. This was Velasco's second goal in three games and six matches this season.

Amahl Pellegrino entered the game in the 75th minute and set up Lopez's sixth goal of the season four minutes later to score the go-ahead goal. It was the second assist to score seven goals this season for the 34-year-old Pellegrino in his first season in the league.

Jeremy Ebobisse added the insurance goal in the 83rd minute with an assist from Niko Tsakiris – the first of his career in 48 matches with 28 appearances. Ebobisse's goal was his sixth of the season.

Defender Sebastian Ibiaga received a pass from Sebastian Lletget and slotted home in the 90th minute to put Dallas within goal. This is Ibega's second goal this season and third in 154 matches. Lletget's assist was his eighth of the season.

Daniel De Souza Brito finished with three saves in his 10th start for the Earthquakes this season.

Jimmy Maurer blocked one shot in his second start of the season for Dallas.

The Earthquakes will host Real Salt Lake on Saturday. Dallas travels to play the Portland Timbers on Sunday.
