Palace says Jokowi's apology a show of humility

Yusuf said the series of apologies presented by the outgoing president on various occasions and places highlights the seriousness with which he thinks about the policies implemented. He also believes that the head of state has demonstrated integrity, political sense and a deep concern for the responsibilities he assumes.
“The direct apologies presented at various important times and in various regions also reflect a direct connection with the people and demonstrate empathy,” Yusuf added.
Jokowi issued eight apologies in the three months before his term ends on October 20, 2024. Most recently, he issued another apology to the people of East Nusa Tenggara at the Kefamenanu market in north-central Timor, NTT , Wednesday October 2. 2024.
“I am an ordinary human, full of errors, deficiencies and shortcomings,” he told hundreds of people through a megaphone.
On this occasion, he apologized extensively for all the mistakes made during his presidency. “For all the policies that may not have pleased everyone,” he said.

Usman Hamid, director of International amnesty Indonesia questioned the sincerity of Jokowi's apology during the MPR's annual session. Usman felt that the head of state failed to provide a full explanation of the actions and mistakes which necessitated an apology.
“It was an empty speech, without recognition of the failures of his promises,” Usman said during a public debate at the Amnesty International Indonesia office in Jakarta on Friday, August 16, 2024. He stressed that the apology should have be accompanied by an acknowledgment of various shortcomings during Jokowi's ten years as president.
