Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media at the Presidential Secretariat Yusuf Permana said the apologies presented to the public by President Joko Widodo or Jokowi before his retirement demonstrated an attitude of humility. According to him, Jokowi dared to apologize for the shortcomings during his ten years at the helm of Indonesia.
“President Joko Widodo showed humility and courage to directly apologize for imperfections during his term,” Yusuf told reporters on Friday (04/10/2024).
In total, Jokowi apologized directly to the public eight times during his working visits to the regions. Yusuf believed that the series of apologies presented by Jokowi showed his seriousness in thinking about the implemented policies.
Yusuf said Jokowi had demonstrated integrity, statesmanship and deep concern for the responsibilities he shouldered as head of state. Apart from that, he said, Jokowi's apology also reflects a direct relationship with the people and demonstrates a sense of empathy.
“It is his commitment to the strong principles of transparency and accountability in his leadership,” Yusuf said.
Jokowi apologized for the first time in front of the public during a visit to Soponyono Market, Surabaya City, East Java, Friday (06/09/2024). He also said goodbye to those present.
Jokowi said that his term as President of the Republic of Indonesia will end on October 20, 2024. He apologized to the public if things went wrong while he was president.
“Because next month, October 20, I will retire, I ask you to say goodbye to me. I want to say goodbye and apologize, pangapunten if there are things that you don't like about all, ladies and gentlemen, I think that’s it, thank you,” Jokowi explained. Use a megaphone so people can hear.
