PM Modi in Thane: Complete ban on heavy vehicles entering the city from Friday to Saturday | Bombay News

The restriction will be in force from Friday midnight to Saturday midnight, banning the movement of heavy goods vehicles from Navi Mumbai to Thane.

Mumbai: In preparation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Kasarvadavali in Thane on October 5, the Navi Mumbai Police has imposed a complete ban on heavy vehicles from entering Thane.

The restriction will be in force from Friday midnight to Saturday midnight, banning movement of heavy vehicles from Navi Mumbai towards Thane.

The timing of the Prime Minister's visit coincides with the Navratri festival, which is expected to cause heavy traffic on major arterial roads, including the Thane-Panvel road. An official explained, “Especially on Pune and Goa highways, traffic will be heavier due to the festival season. To ensure that there are no problems during the Prime Minister's visit, the ban on entry of heavy vehicles into Thane has been imposed.

The Navi Mumbai Traffic Police has issued a notification outlining alternative routes for heavy vehicles heading towards Thane from Navi Mumbai. Nashik-bound vehicles will have to take the JNPT – Karjat – Murbad – Shahpur – Kasara – Igatpuri route.

For vehicles heading towards Gujarat, the designated route is JNPT Junction – Karjat – Murbad – Shahpur – Wada – Manor Toll Naka from JNPT Junction near Panvel.

An additional alternative route has been established from JNPT junction via Pune Expressway to Chakan, from where vehicles can take Ahmednagar-Nashik Expressway to reach their destination.

The official clarified, “No vehicles carrying essential goods will be affected by the restriction. The ban applies specifically to vehicles plying on the Navi Mumbai to Thane route. There will be checkpoints to ensure that no heavy vehicles does not enter restricted routes.”

Checkpoints will be established at strategic locations including Kharpada, T point, Rabale, Taloja, Mahape-Shilphata, Chandni chowk in Nhava Sheva, Uran and Gavhan phata.
