Alabama A&M will host the 2024 SWAC fall tennis tournament
THE HILL | Alabama A&M University will host the 2024 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Fall Tennis Tournament Oct. 4-5 at the Alabama A&M Tennis Courts. The first service is at 9am both days. The winners of the events will advance to the ITA Conference Masters to be held from November 7 to 10. Live streaming for all men's matches can be found here. The women's flight begins with the first round of Florida A&M vs. Prairie View A&M, and Bethune-Cookman vs. Jackson State. The quarter-round competitions of Alcorn vs. Alabama State and Alabama A&M vs. Southern University also start at 9am. The first round of the singles flight starts at 10:30 am.
On the men's side of the competition, the first round of doubles kicks off at 9 a.m. with a rivalry match between Alabama A&M and Alabama State. Southern University vs. Jackson State and Mississippi Valley vs. Prairie View A&M also start at 9 a.m. The first round of the singles flight starts at 10:30 am.
The Alabama A&M men's tennis team returns six players from last season, including Kai Koecher And Freddie Laurenswho were each selected to the All-SWAC Second Team last season. Cowcher was also named to the 2024 SWAC Men's Tennis All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the 2024 conference tournament. Laurens and junior Yin Chih Lan also earned recognition as an Intercollegiate Tennis Academy (ITA) Scholar-Athlete last season.
Cowcher will face Sebastien Byng in the men's singles on Friday at 10.30am.
The Alabama A&M women's team returns from the 23rd annual HBCU National Tennis Championship, where they emerged victorious. The team was honored with an awards lunch with keynote speaker Dr. HoraceRice. The Bulldogs return and welcome six athletes from last season Valentine's Day stays in Talakiwho was ranked 12th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's NJCAA Women's Top 50 national rankings.
Sofia Sotela Raya and Ntokozo Zungu will both compete in women's singles. Zungu will face Alabama State's Kesmet El Tawil, while Raya will face FAMU's Genesis Whitelock.
