2026 QB Cash Herrera commits to Hawkeyes
IOWA CITY Iowa football has landed a quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class.
Cash Herrera announced his commitment to the Hawkeyes on Thursday.

Herrera attends Bishops School in La Jolla, California. Listed at 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, Herrera is considered a three-star recruit according to 247Sports ratings. He is also the 43rd ranked quarterback in the class.
National Recruiting Analyst Greg Biggins wrote in September from Herrera: He is a traditional pocket passer, but shows good mobility and can play off-script if a play breaks down. He has a good feel for the position in terms of timely and anticipatory throwing and can get the ball out quickly and from different arm angles, not for show but out of necessity. He's also a tough kid and will step in and take a shot to get a throw. He is a player who is on the rise for us and is projected as a big Power 4 prospect.
Herrera was still at Kinnick Stadium in early September. He visited Iowa for the Hawk eyesrivalry matchup with Iowa State. Before the game, Herrera was seen with Iowa offensive coordinator Tim Lester and later with tight ends/fullbacks coach Abdul Hodge.
Herrera's recruitment exploded earlier this year. He also reported offers from San Diego State, Appalachian State, Washington State, Colorado State, Minnesota, Yale, Columbia, Brown, UCLA and Virginia Tech. All of these offers came in just over a month.
Iowa was the first Big Ten program to offer Herrera, and the Hawkeyes expanded the opportunity in June.
Quarterback play has been a shortcoming for the Hawkeyes in recent seasons. But there is hope that Lester can change that. Lester has extensive knowledge of the position, having been a productive passer during his playing days at Western Michigan and mentoring quarterbacks during his coaching career.
Iowa has a handful of young, but promising signal callers in the pipeline. Redshirt freshman Marco Lainez is currently Iowa's QB3. James Resar is in his first season with the program. Jimmy Sullivan, who originally committed before Lester was hired, is part of the Hawkeyes' 2025 class.
Just in his junior season of high school football, Herrera still has time to grow before he begins his college career.

Iowa is still in the early stages of putting together its 2026 recruiting class.
Herrera is just the Hawkeyes' second commitment in that recruiting cycle. Waterloo West offensive lineman Carson Nielson, who announced his commitment in April, was Iowa's first prospect in the class of 2026.
Iowa is pursuing several others as it tries to build momentum on the recruiting trail. Among the many targets is Julian Manson of Iowa City West. His current teammate, Mason Woods, is committed to Iowa in the class of 2025.
