Women's tennis has a strong day 1 in Hall of Fame Hidden Dual
Senior Emma Fernaldjunior Yaëlle Vaissaudsecond year Francesca Davisand freshmen Mira Kernagis led the way for the Tribe, recording a win in both singles and doubles.
In doubles, two green and gold doubles pairs recorded their first victory while playing together for the first time. Fernald and Kernagis teamed up for the first time, topping the UNC team of Susanna Maltby and Alana Boyce 6-4. Davis and Jr Emma Pell lost just one game in a 6-1 victory over ECU's Joan Madi and Isabella Rivera in their first time as a team. Vaissaud and sophomores Parker Debnam improved 4-1 as a team over the past two seasons with a 6-2 win over ECU's Lilly Lancaster and Anne Lou Champion.
In singles, seniors Hedda Gurholt took her 75th career victory. She defeated Ines Bachir of ECU in straight sets, 7-6 (5), 7-5, in first place. Gurholt improved to 3-2 on the year.
Davis and Kernagis remained undefeated in singles play with victories over ECU opponents during the fall. Davis won 6-3 sets against Xenia Jeromin, while Kernagis dropped just three games total in a 6-3, 6-0 win over Lancaster. Both Tribe players are 4-0 so far this year.
Senior Ine Stange and Fernald both improved to 3-1 in the fall with three-set wins. Stange defeated Alana Boyce of UNC 7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-5, and Fernald defeated Joan Madi of ECU 6-2, 3-6, 7-5.
Vaissaud convincingly achieved her first victory of the autumn. She rolled over ECU's Brooke La Frenz 6-0, 6-2.
