Timothe Chalamet will play ping-pong legend Marty Reisman in a new film from one of the Safdie brothers, titled “Marty Supreme.”
After his role as Bob Dylan, Timothe Chalamet once again steps into the shoes of a real character. This time he leaves the music scene for the sports world!
The 28-year-old actor, recently seen in Wonka and Dune 2, a smash hit of 2024 with more than 4.2 million tickets sold and third at the French box office, will star in 'Marty Supreme'.
Early photos from the set have surfaced, revealing a dramatic transformation in his appearance!
“Marty Supreme” delves into the life of Marty Reisman, a world-class athlete who died in 2012 at the age of 82. He started playing ping pong at the age of 12 and won several world championships. He also performed alongside the Harlem Globetrotters as a table tennis act and was nicknamed “The Needle” and the “Table Tennis Wizard”. His memoirs were published in 1974.
The cast includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler the Creator and Abel Ferrara.
A feature film directed by a Safdie Brother
Filmmaker Josh Safdie will direct the project. Josh is known for co-directing several feature films with his brother Benny, including 'Good Time' with Robert Pattinson (2017) and 'Uncut Gems' with Adam Sandler (2020). The film is co-written by Josh Safdie and Ronald Bronstein.
This marks the first solo directorial effort for Josh Safdie. His brother Benny Safdie is also preparing a solo project, “The Smashing Machine,” starring Dwayne Johnson. This film focuses on MMA and wrestling champion Mark Kerr, who battled a long-standing addiction to painkillers.
Both projects will be distributed in the United States by the prestigious studio A24. Their release dates have not yet been announced.
