Hellenic Table Tennis Federation: National Initiative for Recycled Table Tennis Balls
In 2020, a pilot initiative called BLESS (Breath, Life, Evolution, Sports, Start) was launched to tackle a surprising environmental problem: the waste of broken table tennis balls, which causes over 216 tons of plastic pollution every year. The Mediterra Institute, founded by concerned athletes, worked with table tennis clubs across Greece and Cyprus to collect and recycle these damaged balls, turning them into practical items such as trophies and medals. With support from the Hellenic Table Tennis Federation, the initiative expanded further by planting three olive trees for every three bags of balls collected, promoting reforestation and reducing plastic waste.

Botswana Table Tennis Federation: Africa Youth Championships Legacy Project
In September 2024, the Botswana Table Tennis Association (BTTA) officially handed over the legacy project 'Advancing Sustainability', launched at the Africa Youth Championships. The initiative aimed to revive an abandoned orchard section of a table tennis center for base development, which had been unused for more than eleven years. With support from the ITTF Foundation and African Youth Championship partner, the project transformed a neglected area into a positive space for the community, in line with BTTA's sustainability goals and with lasting impact.
