Jokowi says presidential decree on IKN transfer should have been signed by Prabowo
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – RI President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) handed over the Presidential Decree or Executive Order to move the capital from Jakarta to the Archipelago Capital (IKN) to President-elect Prabowo Subianto.
Jokowi said this was because Indonesia would officially have a new president in the near future. As we know, Prabowo will be inaugurated president on October 20, 2024, replacing Jokowi who served as president for a decade.
“Yes, this is how it should be, the new president, Pak Prabowo,” Jokowi said after attending the Nusantara TNI Fun Run 2024 event in IKN region, East Kalimantan, reported by CNN Indonesia Sunday (06/10/2024).
On this occasion, Jokowi stressed that the transfer of IKN cannot be done in a hurry, because it does not only involve the movement of the city's infrastructure and the people there, but rather must form a new capital ecosystem.
“The ecosystem must be ready, so that if we move, the hospital is ready because it is necessary, the education of our children is also ready, the school means it is also needed, from kindergarten , primary school, middle school, high school, vocational education from school to university,” he underlined.
Therefore, he emphasized, IKN must first have various social support facilities before holding the title of new capital. From small things like stalls to entertainment venues for residents.
