Experts on 5,246 T trial against Jokowi should also target DPR/MPR

Habib Rizieq along with six others, he filed a civil suit against President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) worth IDR 5,246 trillion. Abdul Fickar Hadjar, a criminal law expert from Trisaksi University, believes that Habib Rizieq should also prosecute the other parties.
“This is a citizen's trial against the head of state. It is not enough to prosecute the institution of the head of state, we must also pursue other institutions which also participate in the decision and approval of debts, for example the DPR or MPR”, said Abdul Fickar when contacted, Saturday (05/10/2024).
Abdul believes that it is impossible for President Jokowi to make decisions regarding the debt alone. Apart from this, he said that the person who understands the details of the debt is Finance Minister Sri Mulyani.

“The suit therefore lacks parties because it is impossible for the President to make a decision regarding this debt alone. Yes, as the official of the Republic of Indonesia, the President is enough, but the one who understands the details of the debt and who this is due to is the Minister of Finance,” he said.
Previously, it was reported that Habib Rizieq Shihab (HRS) and six others filed a civil suit against President Joko Widodo. In one of the motions in the lawsuit, the plaintiff demanded that Jokowi, as the defendant, pay compensation of IDR 5,246.75 trillion. Where does this numerical calculation come from?
“The calculation is based on Indonesia's external debt since he took office, which is suspected of causing losses of this magnitude,” said Aziz Yanuar, HRS lawyer, contacted on Friday (4/10).
The lawsuit filed by Rizieq et al is registered with the Central Jakarta District Court. The lawsuit was filed on September 30, 2024 and docketed under case number 661/Pdt.G/2024/PN Jkt.Pst.
Aziz explained the context of the lawsuit filed. He said the trial was related to the alleged violation of Jokowi's authority.
“The trial concerns allegations of lies using constitutional instruments,” Aziz said.
