A new era begins in oil and gas exploration, says Energy Minister
ISTANBUL
Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said that the dispatch of the seismic research vessel Oru Reis to Somalia marks the beginning of a new era in the maritime exploration of natural gas and oil of Trkies.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoan attended a departure ceremony for the ship Oru Reis on October 5 as it embarked on its latest energy research mission to the waters off Somalia.

He said the initiative is expected to propel Somalia towards greater economic development and a stronger energy sector.
Oru Reis will carry out seismic surveys in Somali waters under an agreement signed in March between the Trkiyes Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and the Somali Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
The ship began its journey through the Strait of Istanbul after entering through the Black Sea, passing the presidential office in Dolmabahe, where the ceremony took place.
Erdogan greeted the ship's crew. Bayraktar was also present at the ceremony.
The vessel is expected to arrive off the coast of Somalia later this month to carry out seismic surveys for oil and natural gas in three areas where Trkiye has obtained exploration licenses, the Energy Ministry said in a statement. press release.
The ship will sail through the Mediterranean to the Suez Canal and cross the Red Sea.
The ship will be accompanied by two Turkish naval frigates, as well as the support ship Zaganos Paa, the platform support ship Sancar and the tracking ship Ataman.
It will carry out 3D seismic studies in areas off the coast of Somalia.
The mission, expected to last around seven months, will collect seismic data on oil and natural gas, the ministry added. This data will be analyzed in the Turkish capital Ankara to identify potential drilling sites.
Furthermore, Bayraktar signed a memorandum of understanding on October 5 with José Do Nascimento Carvalho De Rio, Minister of Infrastructure and Natural Resources of Sao Tome and Principe, with the aim of developing energy cooperation between the two countries.
Under the MoU, we aim to develop cooperation in the fields of renewable energy and the electricity sector, as well as offshore oil and gas exploration activities, the Turkish minister said.
