British Foreign Secretary expresses firm commitment to overseas territories | foreign policy

Britain remains firm in its commitment to all of its overseas territories after Argentina pledged to gain full sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, its foreign secretary said.

Stephen Doughty said Saturday that the sovereignty of the territory was not up for negotiation.

Keir Starmer on Friday defended giving up British control of the Chagos Islands, saying an agreement with Mauritius over the remote archipelago was the best way to secure the long-term future of the joint US-British military base at Diego Garcia. Falklands Governor Alison Blake has already tried to reassure residents that Britain's commitment to the Falklands remains unwavering.
