Concordia-Moorhead women's tennis blanks in first doubles match
NORTHFIELD, Minn. Five members of the St. Olaf College women's tennis team won both singles and doubles to power the Oles to a 9-0 victory over Concordia-Moorhead in their only doubles match of the fall on Saturday afternoon at Carlson Courts.
Senior Look at Zubarievaeldest Jane Spadingeldest Fiona O'Flahertyjunior Alexandra Bernsand oldest Sarah Clark were all 2-0 on the day to propel St. Olaf (1-0, 1-0 MIAC) to its 25th straight win over Concordia (0-4, 0-2 MIAC), dating back to 2003. The Oles lost just 24 games across the nine games to beat the Cobbers at Homecoming and Family Weekend on the Hill.
St. Olaf won all three doubles matches by identical 8-1 scores with wins over pairs Zubarieva and Spading, O'Flaherty and Berns, and Clark and junior Emma Clift. Singles was a similar story, as the Oles recorded outright wins at each of the six spots in the lineup.
Zubarieva didn't drop a match at No. 1 singles, O'Flaherty and Berns lost just two at No. 3 singles and No. 4 singles, respectively, and sophomores Mads Hockmuth surrendered only three at No. 6 singles. Spading played the best match of the day, but closed it out in a second-set tiebreak, while Clark recorded a 6-4, 6-2 victory in No. 5 singles.
St. Olaf returns to competition on Saturday, February 22, with games against Wartburg College and Northwestern College at Tostrud Fieldhouse.
