Peshawar: Jailed former prime minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has distanced itself from a party leader's invitation to Foreign Minister S Jaishankar to join its protest, saying that 'no foreign country has a role in its political struggle. Party president Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Saturday said the remarks of Muhammad Ali Saif, information advisor to the chief minister of Khans Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province ( PTI), had been taken out of context.

Saif said the party plans to invite Jaishankar to join its protests here, sparking backlash from the ruling coalition. PTI will invite Jaishankar, Indian Foreign Minister, to come and join the PTI protest, talk to our people and see that Pakistan is a strong democracy where everyone has the right to protest, Saif said sarcastically in response to a question on Saturday.

Lawyer Gohar Khan said Pakistan's 70-year-old India policy forms the backbone of the PTI party. “Peaceful protest is our constitutional right. No foreign dignitary, including Indian, has been invited to PTI to attend the protest. No foreign dignitary is allowed to comment on our internal affairs,” he said. -he declared.

Jaishankar was not involved: PTI

He stressed that the party fight was an internal matter in which Jaishankar was not involved and said Saif's statement had created a false impression that the party had invited the Indian minister to attend the protest call in progress of the party. Jaishankar will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Heads of Government (SCO-CHG) meeting in Pakistan on October 15-16.

Saif's statement drew criticism from the ruling coalition and ministers termed the invitation to the Indian foreign minister as highly irresponsible, amounting to enmity towards Pakistan.

The PTI staged protests, saying the government must adhere to the constitution, pushing for the independence of the judiciary and against rising inflation, besides demanding the release of its 72-year-old founder. In a late-night meeting, the PTI decided that the protest would continue until party founder Khan asked his supporters to end it.

Currently incarcerated in Adilala Prison in Rawalpindi, Khan was arrested on August 5, 2023. Facing dozens of cases, he was found guilty in a few of them.
