Alcaraz ruins the Chinese party and defeats Wu in Shanghai
The Spaniard will face Monfils or Humbert in the fourth round

Carlos Alcaraz had to fight hard on Sunday as he claimed his 11th straight victory to advance to the fourth round of the Rolex Shanghai Masters.
The world number 2 showed glimpses of his most sparkling tennis as he surged to a 7-6(5), 6-3 win over wild card Wu Yibing, his 50th tour-level win of the year. After claiming his fourth title of the season at the China Open earlier this week, Alcaraz remains undefeated since his shock second-round exit at the US Open and now has 100 hard court victories to his name.
“He is recovering his level. He is coming back from injury, but his level certainly deserves to be at the top,” Alcaraz said about Wu. “If he continues to play at this level, I'm pretty sure I'll see him more often. I'm just really happy that I'm getting through it.
“I don't want to say I was surprised, but it was the first time I played against him. He just defeated [Nicolas] Jarry very easily, 6-2, 6-2, so that's impressive. I had to be focused on playing my best. I'm not used to the feelings I had on the field. He is a very powerful player and plays very strong, so I felt like I was not dominating the game.”

Chinese men's tennis has enjoyed a remarkable rise in the Asian swing, but Alcaraz appears to have spoiled the party after beating #NextGenATP star Shang Juncheng in his Shanghai opener.
Leading 3/1 in the tiebreak, Wu looked to be in a strong position to take the opening set, but Alcaraz held his nerve to charge into the lead. The Spaniard, who found himself in a similar position in the deciding set of the Beijing final against Jannik Sinner on Wednesday, was able to reproduce another exciting tiebreak comeback.
For large parts of the opening set, Wu unleashed some of the tennis that helped him become China's first ATP Tour champion in Dallas in 2023. Although he lost the tiebreak, he continued to push Alcaraz in the second set.
The 24-year-old dug deep and made Alcaraz work for his service games, but a slight lapse in concentration in the sixth game finally gave the Spaniard a decisive break. From then on, Alcaraz kept his foot on the accelerator and crossed the finish line with conviction, finishing with 23 winners in his victory, according to Infosys ATP Stats.
Alcaraz will face Gael Monfils or Tokyo finalist Ugo Humbert for a place in the last eight in Shanghai.
