Islamabad ATC reserves decision on remand of Aleema and Uzma Khan

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has reserved its decision on the application for extension of the remand of Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan.

During the hearing, the court was examining the case related to vandalism at D-Chowk during a PTI protest. Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan were produced after their two-day remand.

Lawyer Niazullah Niazi argued that the prosecution of PTI leaders and workers was politically motivated.

Justice Abu Al-Hasanat Zulqarnain remarked that political victimization should be condemned by both parties, adding that he personally opposed such actions and stressed the need to reflect on the country and move forward together.

Prosecutor Raja Naveed sought additional remand of 15 days, presenting the testimony of co-accused Adnan, who claimed that Aleema and Uzma Khan had supplied explosive materials.

He further alleged that the two women planned to use explosives near Parliament House in D-Chowk as part of an anti-state conspiracy.

Lawyer Salman Safdar said Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan were not arrested at the scene; they were not involved in the incident.

Aleema Khan approached the podium and said, “I have appeared before your court several times.

The judge, in a light-hearted exchange, replied: “Yes, you are the one who brought the bicycle suitcase that you had locked in a box for us,” which provoked laughter in the courtroom.

He jokingly added, “You even broke a wall in the jail and I gave you a bike. You seem more energetic than the PTI founder!”

Aleema Khan also mentioned that the police asked her for the password of her phone, but she refused to unlock it.

The judge suggested: “If unlocking the phone is enough, then do it and get it over with.” »

The court has now reserved its decision on whether or not to grant the prosecution's request to extend the pre-trial detention of the two women.
