Nick Kyrgios sets big title ambitions ahead of return to tennis – 'My goal is a Grand Slam'

Nick Kyrgios has claimed his aim is to win a Grand Slam when he returns to tennis after a lengthy absence due to injury.

The enigmatic Australian, who reached the Wimbledon final in 2022, has not played a competitive match since the Stuttgart Open in June 2023.

But that has not dented his confidence, with Kyrgios now outlining his aim to win an elusive Grand Slam before the end of his career.

“I'm coming back because something is holding me back in the match,” Kyrgios said Code sports.

“I have beaten almost everyone in front of me, reached the final of a Grand Slam, won a doubles title in a Grand Slam, won multiple titles and made money.

“But I think the only thing on my agenda now is a Grand Slam. I think that will be the only thing that will ultimately shut people up. That will be my deep motivation.”

According to reports, Kyrgios could make his return to the World Tennis League in December.

The 29-year-old's world rankings have fluctuated throughout his career: he was ranked No. 13 in the world in 2016, but he has often struggled to maintain the consistency needed to challenge for titles regularly.

However, his talent has never been in doubt, as evidenced by his spectacular run to the 2022 Wimbledon final before ultimately being defeated by Novak Djokovic.

Given his injury woes and time out, returning to the top will likely be a major challenge. But Kyrgios is not deterred.

“To be honest, I'm still far from done. I'm in the later stages of my career, but I still have one or two years to go. I'm feeling extremely good,” he added.

“I'm hitting about three hours a day now. My wrist from the surgery is completely healed and I feel motivated.”

“I don't want to think about retirement, but at the same time I understand that it will come to an end,” Kyrgios said.

“I don't think it will ever be easy.”
