Scientists have detected earthquakes around Mount Adams in Washington

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Scientists have discovered unusual seismic activity around Mount Adams in southern Washington, but they say it's nothing to worry about.

Located in the Cascades about 50 miles from Yakima, Mount Adams typically experiences only one earthquake every 2-3 years, according to the USGS. But the agency recorded six small earthquakes in September alone, ranging in magnitude from 0.9 to 2.0.

The US Geological Survey said these are the largest earthquakes detected on Mount Adams in a month since 1982, when monitoring began.

They noted that the six quakes were not felt on the surface, nor did they cause any changes to the landscape.
