IHC sends notice to prison superintendent for refusing meeting with Imran Khan

A notice has been issued to the superintendent of Adiala Prison, where the founding leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is incarcerated, in response to a contempt of court petition over denial of meeting with Imran Khan .

According to Express News, despite the court order, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notice to the prison superintendent by tomorrow in response to a contempt of court petition for refusing to meet the former prime minister in prison.

During today's hearing headed by Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan, PTI's legal advisors Salman Akram Raja and Faisal Chaudhry appeared before the court.

The legal team maintained that even lawyers are not allowed to meet the jailed PTI leader.

The court asked if there had been any contact with the local commission, to which the lawyer replied that they had reported to the local commission, but no contact had been made yet.

The court noted that the purpose of establishing the commission was precisely to avoid such problems.

The lawyer informed the court that there had been no electricity for several days and they were not even allowed to go out into the corridor.

In response, the court asked them to file a separate petition.

Subsequently, the court issued a notice to the prison superintendent and ordered the appointment of a representative, directing that he appear before the court tomorrow.

The hearing was adjourned to October 24 (tomorrow).

Authorities deny allegations of mistreatment

Earlier, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan expressed concerns over Imran Khan's living conditions, saying the former prime minister had been without electricity for five days and had been denied access to on television and in newspapers for two weeks, leaving him ignoring recent constitutional amendments.

However, authorities have dismissed social media reports and political discussions about Imran Khan's alleged mistreatment as “baseless.” They stressed that all legal requirements regarding his detention were met.

In response to the PTI leaders' allegations, Adiala Prison authorities confirmed that Imran Khan enjoys all the amenities provided under the Class B prison rules. They also noted that a professional cook prepares his meal, offering a variety of dishes according to one's preferences.

Authorities reiterated that reports of mistreatment were unfounded and reaffirmed that Imran Khan's detention fully complied with legal standards.
