PM Modi discusses Cyclone Dana preparedness with Odisha CM Majhi, assures central support

New Delhi [India]October 24 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday reviewed the state's preparedness in the face of approaching Cyclone Dana with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and reassured central support.
Cyclone Dana is expected to make landfall after midnight.
According to an official statement, Odisha has made extensive preparations to deal with the impact of the cyclone. The state set up 5,209 cyclone shelters and evacuated over 3,62,000 people from vulnerable areas, including 3,654 pregnant women who were shifted to nearby hospitals.
Additionally, 19 National Disaster Response Forces (NDRF), 51 Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Forces (ODRAF) and 220 fire service teams have been deployed.
Prime Minister Modi expressed satisfaction with Odisha's preparations and the central government has provided the requested number of NDRF teams.
Cyclone Dana will make landfall between the coast of Odisha and West Bengal on Thursday midnight.
Earlier today, CM Majhi, highlighting the measures taken by the government to ensure safety as severe cyclone Dana is expected to make landfall in Odisha, said the government's target was zero casualties.
“Our goal is zero casualties. Work is underway to ensure 100 evacuation. So far, more than 3 million people have been evacuated. More than 2,300 pregnant women have been moved to safer locations 'More than 7,000 cyclone shelters are ready. Adequate medical services and veterinary teams have also been deployed to give a sense of security to the people,' CM Majhi said.
CM Majhi informed that each minister has been deployed in all 10 districts to supervise the operations.
“The police have deployed to give a sense of security to the people. The DG has installed generators and inverters stationed in district hospitals to ensure electricity supply.
