Bawaslu reveals Jokowi's demands to become regional election judge
President of the Republic of Indonesia Bawaslu Rahmat Bagja explained that statutory regulations regulate the campaign mechanism of regional candidate pairs (cakada).
In Regulation of the General Election Commission (PKPU) 13/2024 regarding election campaigns, it is stated that the campaign can be organized by pairs of candidates, political parties and/or campaign teams.
In an individual context, Bagja stressed the need to clarify Jokowi's position, whether as a member of the winning team or as a participant in the campaign.
“(If you join the winning team), you must join the campaign team,” Bagja told reporters, Saturday, October 26, 2024.
Meanwhile, Bagja said that if Jokowi was just a participant in the campaign, then his position would only be that of an ordinary civilian.
“Otherwise (as a campaign team), is he a citizen? Yes, of course, he has become a normal citizen again,” Bagja said.
Pressure for Jokowi to become a candidate in the 2024 regional elections has already been expressed by the United Development Party (PPP). After resigning as head of state, Jokowi was asked to win the Luthfi-Taj Yasin pairing in the Central Java gubernatorial election.
