Tennis fan causes chaos in Vienna Open as players storm the court | Tennis | Sport
A Vienna Open semi-final between Karen Khachanov and Alex de Minaur was stopped in the first set after a rowdy fan disrupted play, forcing both stars to leave the court until the spectator was ejected.
At 30-30 in the very first game, a fan was shouting loudly and leaning on Khachanov's coach in the front row, distracting both players until action was taken to remove them.
De Minaur and Khachanov decided to leave the field of their own accord until security showed up and escorted the rioters out of the arena in Austria.
Former British star Naomi Broady, who twice reached the Wimbledon doubles quarter-finals, commented for Sky Sports and insisted there was no choice but to remove the fan.
“Problem at center court with one of the spectators on the right side,” she said. 'They are sitting next to Khachanov's team. Go on, do the right thing. He's actually lying on Khakhanov's coach. They will have to wait for security to come and escort him out if he doesn't leave.”
Play eventually resumed, with both players fighting for a chance to face Jack Draper in the final, after the Brit defeated Lorenzo Mussetti on the same day.
And Khachanov dominated the first set, winning the score 6-2 by winning 12 of the last 15 points. Despite De Minaur's superior defensive capabilities, he was no match for his major Russian opponent.
Khachanov eventually took a comfortable 6-2, 6-4 and is now just one win away from his third title of the year.
World number 10 De Minaur was fighting for a spot at the ATP Finals this year, currently ninth in the live Race To Turin. It would be his debut at the end-of-season tournament, but the Australian knows a lack of time on the field has hampered his chances of competing.
Now it's crunch time. Every match counts. Every point counts, De Minaur said after beating Jakub Mensik 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-4 on Friday.

Khachanov pulled off a stunning 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 comeback win over Brandon Nakashima in the quarterfinals to move level with De Minaur.
The 28-year-old won his previous eight matches before taking on De Minaur after lifting the trophy in Almaty last week.
