Blackhawks Great Duncan Keith headlines eligible players into the 2025 Hockey Hall of Fame

On Monday night, Jeremy Roenick became the latest former Chicago Blackhawks star to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. He was eligible for years, and eventually voters came to their senses and voted him into office. Congratulations to JR!

As we now look ahead to the possible names on the ballot for the Class of 2025, another former Blackhawks star should join Roenick, Marian Hossa, Doug Wilson, Chris Chelios and so many others in the Hall of Fame.

Duncan Keith will be eligible for the first time in 2025. He will be on an impressive list of first-year eligible former NHL players, including Zdeno Chra, Joe Thornton, Carey Price, Ryan Getzlaf and Tuukka Rask.

Duncan Keith: No-Brainer Hall of Famer

Originally drafted by the Blackhawks in the second round (No. 54 overall) in the 2002 NHL Draft, Keith played the first 1,192 games of his brilliant career in Chicago. During those 16 seasons, Keith scored 105 regular-season goals and added 520 assists.

In the postseasons, while a member of the Blackhawks, he appeared in 135 playoff games. Keith scored 17 goals and added 66 assists in those games.

No defenseman has played in more regular season games for the Chicago Blackhawks than Keith. Only Doug Wilson produced more regular season points from the blue line for the Blackhawks than Keith. And no defenseman contributed more than Keith's 421 points at even strength during the organization.

His 105 regular-season goals rank third behind Wilson and Bob Murray. His 18 game-winning goals rank third among all Blackhawks defensemen behind Wilson and Brent Seabrook. His 20 short-handed points rank second in franchise history behind only Chris Chelios.

Keith represented the Blackhawks in the NHL All-Star game four times.

He's definitely in the conversation for the best defenseman to ever play for the Blackhawks – I'd take him at No. 1. He was one of the best defenders of his generation; his post-season play and prominent role on Canada's two gold medal-winning Olympic teams are proof of that. As does the amount of individual hardware he has won.

Only thirteen defensemen in NHL history have won the Norris Trophy more than once. Three of those 13 won the award multiple times with the Blackhawks: Pierre Pilote (three), Chelios (three total, twice with the Blackhawks) and Keith.

Soon his number 2 will hang high above the ice at the United Center. He'll likely be joined by the number 7 he skated next to all those years, and then numbers 19 and 88. But before his number is retired, he should get a call from a Toronto phone number letting him know he's a Hockey Hall of Famer.
