NYPD warns US healthcare officials about online blacklisting | Brian Thompson shot

The New York Police Department (NYPD) has warned US healthcare officials of increased risk to their lives after identifying an online wanted list posted following the assassination last week from UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

Companies rushed to give their top executives additional protection against the threat of copycat killings after Thompson's killing, which was celebrated in some social media circles.

The NYPD's warning appeared in a bulletin, which highlighted viral posts publishing the names and salaries of several other health insurance executives. In addition to social media posts, several wanted signs depicting business leaders were posted throughout Manhattan, according to the bulletin, first reported by ABC.

Thompson murder suspect Luigi Mangione, who was hailed as a martyr on social media, sparking fears the crime could serve as inspiration, appeared in a Pennsylvania court Tuesday to face murder charges in second degree. CNN cited two law enforcement officials as saying that fingerprints from the murder scene matched those of Mangiones.

CNN reported that Mangione was found with a notebook in which he wrote about the shooting of a health care official during a bean counter conference.

Global Guardian, a security company, said it received 70 calls from affected businesses in the 36 hours after Thompson's killing, as executives considered beefing up security at companies' offices and residences.
