PM Modi teases Saif and Kareena over their children's absence: 'Laaye Nahi Teesri Peedhi'

The Kapoor clan recently arrived in New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and extend a special invitation to him to celebrate the 100th birthday of legendary actor Raj Kapoor. Ahead of the highly anticipated Raj Kapoor 100 Film Festival, the Kapoors extended a formal invitation to Prime Minister Modi to join the event, while the meeting quickly turned into a delightful conversation filled with nostalgic anecdotes and a light-hearted quip from the Prime Minister. At one point, PM Modi asked Saif and Kareena about the absence of the third generation Pataudis.

The Kapoors graced Prime Minister Modi's residence in Delhi to formally invite him to the Raj Kapoor Film Festival

On December 10, 2024, the Kapoor royalty flew to Delhi to meet the Prime Minister of India and send an official invitation to Narendra Modi to attend the upcoming event honoring the legacy of Raj Kapoor's 100th birth anniversary. The meeting saw Bollywood royalty including Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Karisma Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor coming together with the leader of the nation.

During the meeting, Saif Ali Khan expressed his gratitude, saying that Prime Minister Modi was the first Prime Minister he met in person. We heard him say:

“You are the first Prime Minister I have met. And I met your eyes personally, we met again and again. You have so much energy and you work so hard. And whatever you do, I want to congratulate you.

PM Modi responded to Saif's words by recalling the time he met Saif's father Monsoon Ali Khan Pataudi. In the same vein, he also expressed a desire to meet the next generation of their lineage, Taimur and Jeh. PM Modi can be quoted as saying:

“I met your father and I thought today I would get the chance to meet my teenager. But you don't allow the third match?

PM Modi's joke drew laughter from the Kapoors present, and Saif-Kareena interjected, saying that they wanted to take their children to Delhi, but couldn't make it this time. In a sincere gesture, the Prime Minister sent personalized autographs to the youngest Pataudis.

About Raj Kapoor's 100th Birthday Celebrations

All playful banter aside, the main aim of the meet was to honor the towering legacy of Raj Kapoor, popularly considered as the Showman of Bollywood. Commenting on the 100th birth anniversary of the legendary actor, Narendra Modi shared:

“Raj Kapoor's 100th birthday is a milestone in the golden journey of Indian cinema. It started with 1947's 'Neel Kamal' and we are on our way to 2047. It is such a contribution to the country when we look back on this 100-year journey… In the diplomatic world, we talk a lot about soft power and at a time when this expression did not even exist, Raj Kapoor Sahab established India's soft power all over the world. This was his great service to India.

The Raj Kapoor 100 Film Festival, taking place from December 13-15, 2024, will showcase 10 of his iconic films across 40 cities, bringing his timeless artistry to new generations. Some of his iconic and rare films, including AAG, Barsaat, Awara, Shree 420And My name is joker are among the classics that will be screened at the festival.
