Analysis of UK data showed that 96% of deaths occurred within 60 days or COVID-19 was listed on the death certificate, but 88% of deaths occurred within 28 days.
In England, a new set of weekly numbers will also be published, showing the number of deaths that occurred within 60 days of a positive test. If COVID-19 is listed on the death certificate, deaths occurring after 60 days will also be added to this number. This provides an additional measure of the effects of the disease over time, PHE said.
The move was set up to address concerns raised by scholars at the Oxford-based evidence-based medical center on the original measurements.
