UK weather forecast: Snow bombs set to explode – entire region expected to explode before the end of 2024 | weather | tidings

A massive snow bomb is set to explode across the UK before the end of 2024, with ice and heavy snow expected to fall across much of the country.

A mix of heavy rain and sub-freezing temperatures is expected to be covered in snow in many areas ahead of Christmas and New Year, according to WX charts.

The heaviest snowfall is expected to fall in parts of Scotland, northern England and the Midlands between Friday 20 December and Monday 23 December.

The WX chart forecast shows a band of intense purple snow sweeping in from the northwest, blanketing the highlands and some low-lying areas.

From Friday December 20, the WX Charts map predicts the first snow will fall across Scotland, particularly the Highlands and western regions.

In some areas, snow depths could be up to 5 to 10 cm, with higher peaks likely to see more snow.

Wintry showers will spread south overnight, with parts of northern England such as the Pennines also expected to see fresh snow on Saturday 21 December.

As of Monday, December 23, charts show more snowfall in northern and central regions.

Heavy snow is expected to fall in parts of Cumbria, Northumberland and Yorkshire, with snowfall reaching 2 to 5 cm in most areas.

Scotland is expected to be hit hard by wintry weather once again, with up to 15cm of snow possible in some areas in the highlands.

Meanwhile, brief snowstorms with a mix of sleet and freezing rain are possible over low lying areas, especially the Midlands and North East.

According to the WX chart, this snow bomb will bring a mix of heavy snow and icy conditions, especially in higher elevations and highly exposed areas.

In parts of Scotland and northern England, snow depths can reach up to 18cm, with the heaviest snowfall concentrated in the mountains and hills.

Snow could also accumulate across eastern and south-east England, including London, on December 22, according to one model's forecast.

The Met Office also expects some rain before the end of 2024. From Saturday 28 December to Saturday 11 January, the UK could experience further “changeable” weather.

The Met Office said: “Much of the UK will likely experience wet and windy weather during this period, interspersed with drier and more settled interludes.

“The heaviest rain and strongest winds will probably be in the north, while the south will be drier and less windy overall. Temperatures are likely to vary on average during both mild and cold periods, with cold interludes, especially snow in the highlands. You can go north.”
