Jimari Butler: LSU football adds Nebraska edge rusher | LSU
Nebraska redshirt junior edge rusher Jimari Butler is transferring to LSU football.
Butler was a starter for the Cornhuskers the past two seasons and collected 22 tackles, seven tackles for loss and two sacks this year. He also had 34 tackles and 5.5 sacks in 2023 and was pressured 48 times at quarterback in his career, according to Pro Football Focus.
Butler, who is 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds, announced his decision on social media Saturday evening. Florida State and Texas A&M were the other finalists in his transfer portal recruitment. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
LSU added four transfers in the last two days, and they all come from power conference schools. Butler joined Oklahoma tight end Bauer Sharp, Florida cornerback Ja'Keem Jackson and Kentucky wide receiver Barion Brown.
Butler attended Murphy High and is from Mobile, Alabama. According to 247Sports composite, he was a three-star recruit in the class of 2020 and the No. 37 tight end in the country.
Butler adds a veteran edge rusher to LSU's defensive end room after the Tigers lost sophomore Da'Shawn Womack to the transfer portal and senior starters Bradyn Swinson and Sai'vion Jones became ineligible.
Freshman Gabriel Reliford is LSU's only returning edge rusher who earned regular playing time a year ago. So even with Butler in the fold, the Tigers could look to add more to the position this season from the transfer portal.
