PM Modi calls 2 BJP MPs, Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput injured in parliamentary impasse

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called Bharatiya Janata Party MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput to inquire about their health after they sustained head injuries on the Parliament premises following a alleged brawl between the opposition and the ruling alliance.

This comes amid controversy over Rahul Gandhi allegedly pushing an MP as he claimed he was prevented from entering Parliament and was allegedly pushed himself.

MLAs from the NDA and INDIA blocs had staged a protest in the Parliament premises, when a scuffle broke out between the two camps, injuring two BJP MLAs.

BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi claimed he was injured after receiving pressure from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Mr Sarangi claimed he was standing on the stairs when another MP fell on him, injuring his head.

“Rahul Gandhi pushed an MLA who fell on me, after which I fell… I was near the stairs when Rahul Gandhi came and pushed an MLA who then fell on me…,” said Singh to journalists.

The BJP MP was rushed into an ambulance.

Both the MLAs were admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi.

Medical Superintendent Ajay Shukla said both leaders suffered head injuries and were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).

“Tests will be conducted. Symptomatic treatment has been started. As both of them suffered head injuries, they were admitted to the intensive care unit. Pratap Sarangi was suffering from heavy bleeding and had suffered a deep cut. He so had to be stitched up the assessment is underway,” Shukla said.

Regarding the health of the other MLA, he said, “Mukesh Rajput has lost consciousness. Right now he is conscious but he is dizzy and anxious. His blood pressure has shot up.”

Reacting to the allegations, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, in his defense, said that he was trying to enter inside Parliament when he was also pushed and threatened by the BJP MLAs who were protesting near the entrance. He also claimed that Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge was also pushed.

“This may be on your camera. I was trying to enter through the Parliament gate, but the BJP MLAs were trying to stop me, push me and threaten me. This happened… Yes, it happened (Mallikarjun Kharge being pushed),” Rahul Gandhi told reporters.

He added, “But we are not affected by the stampede. But this is the entrance and we have the right to enter. The BJP MLAs were trying to stop us from entering…”

Congress MP KC Venugopal accused BJP MPs of stopping Congress leaders from entering Parliament.
