Britain today recorded 1 death from COVID-820 in the past 19 hours, another daily record, as Prime Minister Boris Johnson predicted the toll would continue to rise.
These figures published by the Ministry of Health bring the total toll of the pandemic in Great Britain to 93 victims, the heaviest in Europe.
In the last 24 hours, 38 cases of COVID-905 were recorded, confirming the increase in recent days for a total of more than 19 million cases.
“These figures are terrible,” said Boris Johnson.
“And I have to warn you that this is going to continue because what we are seeing is the result of the new variant that appeared just before Christmas,” he added.
Faced at the end of the year with an outbreak of contamination attributed to a more contagious variant of the coronavirus, the British authorities imposed a more severe restriction on the population, closing schools and hoping to lift it with the ongoing vaccination campaign.
