Millions of commuters heading back to work are set to face more snow, ice and rain today as new weather warnings are issued for the next few days.

The Met Office said about 165 flood warnings and 321 flood alerts were in place as heavy rain and thawing snow could cause travel disruption.

“The low pressure system that brought snow and heavy rain to the south will move east by Monday,” forecaster Mike Silverstone said.

“This will cause cold northerly winds to re-establish themselves for most of next week.

“This will bring more sleet, snow and hail showers, particularly to northern Scotland, but other areas are also likely to see fairly dry and bright weather, particularly near the west coast.”
