Amazingly, that's exactly what happened in Saturday night's BBL clash between the Adelaide Strikers and the Brisbane Heat.

The match was memorable for many reasons, with the Strikers most notably recording the second highest BBL score of 251.

However, what happened in the Heats innings is beyond belief, with Fox Cricket's Michael Vaughan claiming it must be the first time this has ever happened.

Strikers pacer Liam Haskett made his debut for Adelaide and was on the wrong end of a powerful Heat hit.

Early in the Heat innings, Haskett was beaten for maximum by former Test opener Nathan McSweeney, with the ball impressively caught by a spectator.

Much later in the innings, as Haskett was about to start his third over, Fox Cricket's Adam Gilchrist informed the crowd that McSweeney's earlier six had been caught by none other than Haskett's father Lloyd.

Unlike most, if not all, successful crowd catches, Lloyd didn't seem too excited after the grab.

That man over there is Liam Haskett's father, Gilchrist said during a replay of the audience recording.

He was sitting back there and didn't look excited at all. He played it really cool that we thought he was a cool customer, but he was so disappointed that his debut son had just shipped.

No way. That must be the first time ever, Vaughan added.

The camera panned to Heskett's parents sitting in the middle of Haskett's parents, both of whom looked understandably nervous as their son entered the bowl.

Haskett got a little treatment from the Heat batsmen, but did pick up two wickets (2/43 from 3 overs), a Strikers win and a family memory to last a lifetime.
