No. 11 Women's Hockey Completes Sweep Over RIT With 3-2 Win – Penn State

 


UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. The No. 11 Penn State women's ice hockey team (19-4-1, 10-0-0 AHA) defeated RIT (11-10-3, 4-5-1 AHA) 3-2 to complete the series sweep Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Lyndie Lobdell fired a shot from the blue line that hit Katelyn Roberts' stick and fell into the net, giving Penn State a 1-0 lead with 8:07 left in the first period.
  • Lobdell fed Tessa Janecke from the upper right circle and Janecke sent the puck to Abby Stonehouse in the slot and she potted a goal to give the Nittany Lions a 2-0 lead with 13:49 left in the second frame.
  • Brianna Brooks dragged the puck through the RIT defenders in the offensive zone and fired a backhanded goal to give Penn State a 3-0 lead with 12:24 left in the second period.
  • With RIT on the power play, Kyla Bear sent a feed from the blue line to Brac Kelley in the bottom left circle and Kelley scored to cut Penn State's lead to 3-1 with 6:37 left in the second frame.
  • Kailey Favro found the back of the net on a goalie rebound in the slot on the power play to cut Penn State's lead to 3-2 with 13:10 left in the third period.

GOALTENDERS

  • Junior goalkeeper Katie DeSa recorded 18 saves on the day. Her record improves to 16-4-0 this year.
  • RIT goalkeeper Sarah Coe recorded 22 saves on 25 attempts. Her record drops to 6-6-1 this year.

STATISTICS AND NOTES

  • Janecke will surpass the all-time career record by one more point, as she is currently tied with Natalie Heising on 137 points.
  • Lobdell needs just one more point to become the all-time leader among Penn State defensemen. Currently, she and Izzy Heminger are at 80 points.
