No. 7 Women's tennis completes the three-day Texas Invitation

Austin No. 7 Texas Women's Tennis recorded 16 combined wins in singles and doubles against opponents from San Diego, Tennessee and Wisconsin while hosting the three-day Texas Invitation in Austin from Friday through Sunday. The first day was forced indoors at the Weller Indoor Tennis Center due to weather, but the other two days were held outdoors at the Texas Tennis Center.

Both freshmen No. 44 Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo and junior No. 95 Vivian Ovrootsky posted 6–0 records, playing in the maximum of three singles matches and three doubles matches, winning them all.

Day one saw four singles victories for the Longhorns against Wisconsin players including Anazagasty-Pursoo and Ovrootsky, freshman No. 28 Carmen Hereaand sophomores Schachf Lieberman. Anazagasty-Pursoo paired with freshman Esther Merij for a doubles win against Tennessee.

Herea, Anazagasty-Pursoo and Ovrootsky all bounced back with singles victories on day two against ranked Volunteers, including Herea topping No. 10 Elza Tomase, 6-3, 7-6 (7), Anazagasty-Pursoo topping No. 19 Catherine Aulia, 6 defeated -4, 7-6 (5), and Ovrootsky defeated No. 54 Vanesa Suarez, 6-4, 6-3. In doubles Ovrootsky combined with senior Sabina Zeynalovaand Lieberman combined with Anazagasty-Pursoo for victories over San Diego.

On the final day, Anazagasty-Pursoo and Ovrootsky completed their 3-0 singles records with wins against players from San Diego and Wisconsin, respectively, while Zeynalova also picked up a singles victory against San Diego. Additionally, the Longhorns won three doubles matches, including Ovrootsky with freshman Charlotte Kempenaers-Begin against Wisconsin, Zeynalova with freshman Ashton Bowers over the Badgers, and Anazagasty-Pursoo with Meri against San Diego.

Texas will open its dual meet season on the road at USC on Friday, January 17 at 12pm PT/2pm CT.
