ICW researcher who was poisoned following Jokowi's criticism that he was the most corrupt leader reports to Bareskrim

One of the Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) researchers, Diky Anandya, was the victim of doxing after criticizing the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, named the most corrupt person in the world according to the 'OCCRP.

The doxing was transmitted via an anonymous Instagram account with the username @volt_anonym by uploading Diky's personal identity with the coordinates of his place of residence.

ICW reported the attempted doxing to the police criminal investigation unit. ICW researcher Tibiko Zabar condemned the doxing received by one of his colleagues.

Not only does this violate personal privacy, but ICW considers doxing efforts to be part of an attempt to obscure the message or criticism being conveyed.

“For what reason? We see that this is a trend that is often repeated, when civil society criticizes and then responds to attempts at doxing and other digital attacks,” Tibiko told journalists from the Unit of criminal investigation by the Jakarta National Police, Monday (13/1).

“Therefore, as part of efforts to uphold democracy and the law, we believe it is important that the police maintain what is in fact a strong suspicion that this criminal act is quite significant,” a- he explained.

ICW hopes this report becomes a major concern for police so that similar incidents do not occur again.

“It then becomes a serious note and becomes a duty that the police must carry out so that the same thing does not happen again and it does not cause concern or even fear in the community,” he said.

On this occasion, ICW was also accompanied by the Democracy Advocacy Team (TAUD), consisting of LBH Jakarta, KontraS and LBH Pers.

LBH Jakarta Director Fadhil Fathan revealed that a number of personal data of ICW researchers had been doxxed. From full name, KTP number, specifications of the device used, to the final location coordinates in the form of Google Maps.

“If we look at it from a legal point of view, this is personal data that cannot be distributed recklessly and illegally by parties who are not authorities and have no rights over it- here,” said Fadhil.

He stressed that Bareskrim Polri should reveal the owner of the account suspected of doxing ICW researchers.

Even though the account that carried out the doxing no longer contains the personal data content of ICW researchers, Fadhil said his party provided proof of screenshots of uploads of the personal data distribution.

In fact, he said, the ICW researcher received death threats via WhatsApp messages.

“So after the data was revealed and distributed, where the data variable contained phone numbers, threats were made, yes, there were even death threats and so on. “, he said.

Not only at Bareskrim Polri, Fadhil said his party would also report the attempted doxing to LPSK and Komnas HAM.

“As a follow-up, we will send reports and complaints to relevant public institutions that have authority in related areas and provide protection, etc., such as LPSK and Komnas HAM,” he said.

Previously, ICW coordinator Agus Sunaryanto revealed that the doxing took place on January 3, 2025.

“The doxing was distributed on January 3, 2025 after ICW researchers expressed their views regarding the OCCRP appointment of Joko Widodo in a number of media outlets since January 1, 2025,” Agus said in his statement on Friday (3/1).

Agus said that this doxing action violated Article 65 paragraphs 1 and 2 and Article 67 paragraphs 1 and 2 of Law Number 27 of 2022 regarding the protection of personal data. Doxing is also considered a form of silencing.

“In addition, this is not the first time that this incident has been experienced by a party that criticizes the state. Similar cases have also been experienced by a number of journalists, activists and citizens who have expressed critical voices in fact, doxing with this It is worth suspecting that this trend involves parties who have access to citizens' personal data or who are responsible for protecting them,” he added.

Agus added that this doxing made Jokowi worthy of being named the world's most corrupt leader. Additionally, during his presidency, Jokowi also played a role in weakening the KPK.

Jokowi was named as the world's most corrupt leader according to OCCRP along with 4 other names namely Kenyan President William Ruto, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian conglomerate Gautam Adani.

The page does not contain any data regarding Jokowi's name. There are only profiles from the jury, like Alia Ibrahim, CEO of the media daraj.com; and OCCRP founders Paul Radu and Drew Sullivan.
