Israel must not be allowed to violate Gaza ceasefire: President Erdogan

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday criticized Israel's history of ceasefire violations, urging the international community to prevent further violations under the Gaza ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Hamas.

“Israel, (especially Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu, has a significant history of ceasefire violations; it should not be allowed this time (in Gaza),” Erdogan said at his party’s provincial congress in Adana, southern Trkiye.

He condemned the 467-day Israeli offensive in Gaza, which left more than 47,000 dead, saying: “Despite 467 days of genocide and massacres, Israel has failed to break the will to resist of our brothers and sisters from Gaza.

Erdogan reaffirmed Trkiye's commitment to holding perpetrators of war crimes in Palestine to account. “Our efforts to hold perpetrators of wars and crimes against humanity to account one by one will continue to intensify,” he said.

Trkiye will mobilize by all means to heal the wounds of Gaza during the ceasefire period, Erdogan added.

On Wednesday, Qatar announced a three-phase ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas to end more than 15 months of deadly Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, with the ceasefire ahead of come into force on Sunday at 6:30 a.m. GMT.

Regarding Syria, Erdogan said that “the Israeli project to divide Syria into three parts, turning it into easy-to-swallow pieces, has collapsed.”

He highlighted Trkiye's support for voluntary returns of refugees while opposing any forced repatriation.
