Georgia football projected defensive depth chart, starters for 2025 season

ATHENS The 2024 college football season has come to an end. Georgia did not play in its final game of the year, as Notre Dame closed out the season.

The Bulldogs should still be among the most talented teams in the country next season, even after losing more than a dozen players to both the transfer portal and the NFL draft. Georgia has signed its third overall recruiting class for the 2025 recruiting cycle and is expected to welcome six transfers to the program.

Georgia went 11-3 in the SEC last season to win the league. But many of the best players on that team need to be replaced. On the defensive side of the ball, Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams and Malaki Starks are all heading to the NFL.

Below is our first attempt at guessing who will replace the former Georgia stars for next season. No start date for spring training has been announced yet, but it typically starts in March.

Georgia opens the 2025 season against Marshall on August 30.

Analysis: Georgia's defensive line will look very different next season. Gone are veterans Warren Brinson and Naz Stackhouse, along with Williams and Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins. From a raw numbers perspective, this group is not as deep as in years past. But there's still a lot to like about this group. It was important to get Miller back as he looks to become a bigger piece in this defense.

McLeod and Hall both did some nice things to end the season.

Georgia will be counting on the 2024 signatories to make a big impact this fall. Jonah-Ajonye will be worth watching as he recovers from a foot injury. Georgia also needs Griffin to play early. He was the No. 1 defensive lineman in the country.

Outside linebacker:

Analysis: The loss of Damon Wilson to Missouri is very painful for this position group. Harris will almost certainly spend more time here, pulling him away from the defensive line.

The Bulldogs will have to prepare their freshmen to play. All three were ranked as top-100 prospects by at least one recruiting service.

Expect Georgia to be aggressive in the transfer portal to try to add help at the position.

Analysis: Allen and Wilson bring a lot of experience to players entering their third season at Georgia. Expect them to be leaders on the defensive side of the ball. It's a big offseason for Williams and Cole as they look to expand their roles on defense. Cole could be a Swiss army knife and also play outside linebacker for the Bulldogs.

Cornerback:

Analysis: Everette will fill one of the starting spots as he returns for what will be his third season as a starter for the Bulldogs.

But the left cornerback position is wide open. Harris started the final four games of the 2024 season but was unable to exactly cement the starting spot for next season. Robinson and Jones are more than capable of taking the starting spot opposite Everette.

Analysis: Don't worry too much about who plays where in this position group. Georgia will cross-train throughout the unit to ensure everyone can play in all three spots. Bolden is most assured of playing time after an excellent freshman season for the Bulldogs.

Aguero will also play, but the question is whether that will be at the star position, where he played most of the time in 2024, or at the other safety spot.

The Bulldogs will need to replace veterans Dan Jackson and Malaki Starks, which won't be easy. Georgia signed three safeties from the transfer portal this offseason. Look how quickly they push for play time.

Analysis: Thorson is back, but his injury situation will be worth watching after season-ending knee surgery. Woodring is one of the best kickers in the country, while long-snapper Gardner also returns.
