Warnings for snow, ice and wind have been extended until Sunday as record wind speeds from Storm Eowyns brought frosty blasts to parts of England.

Travel disruption continued on Saturday morning, with flights, trains and ferries canceled after winds reaching 100mph caused widespread disruption and widespread damage to the rail network. At least 1,070 flights were suspended and 150,000 air passengers were affected.

A snow and ice advisory has been in place across Northern Ireland and mainland Scotland since Saturday, and will now run until Sunday morning.

Warnings of life-threatening gales are in place for most of Orkney and Shetland until 3pm, while a less severe wind warning is in place for the Highlands and Hebrides until Sunday.

The storm also caused widespread damage to the power network, with wind speeds in Co Galway breaking the previous record of 113mph set in 1945 and leaving one million people without power across the UK and Ireland.

A 20-year-old man from Ireland became the first confirmed storm-related death after a tree fell on his car at Feddyglass, Raphoe, at 5.30am.

A planetary parade can be seen in the UK tonight as part of a rare event that won't be repeated for 400 years.

January and February will feature two remarkable planetary alignments, one of which will give stargazers the opportunity to witness a celestial spectacle that will not be repeated for another 400 years.

On Friday, January 24 and Saturday, January 25, six planets will line up in the night sky in an event some astronomers call a planetary parade.

The planets will be together in the night sky for the rest of January and February, and weather conditions in the UK this weekend look favorable for some decent sightings.

This is the biggest storm we've ever experienced.

Johanna Krijnsen, 34, from Co Clare, Ireland, said part of her roof was blown off by Storm Eowyn.

This was truly the biggest storm we have ever experienced here in Ireland, said the mother of four from Utrecht, Netherlands. About 10 trees on their land were torn down and they were still without power, she said.

We were on the West Coast, about 20 minutes from the Atlantic Ocean. I think we got the full feel of it.

Ms. Krinsen and her husband have an 8-year-old daughter with Down syndrome and a 5-year-old son with nonverbal autism.

Our son is so used to his routine that he is not there now, Ms Krijnsen said. So that's what hits him the hardest emotionally.

My husband had to tie the bus stop to a lamppost to keep it from blowing away.

Marilyn Higham, 61, from Deckmans, West Lothian, Scotland, said Storm Éowyn had caused the worst damage she had ever seen in the area.

Her husband tied the bus stop opposite their house to a lamppost during a storm to stop it flying into the street, a retired mental health nurse told the PA news agency.

Our property was not damaged at all. The power went out around 6pm last night and came back on in the early hours.

Mrs Higham said fortunately no one in the village was injured as people heeded warnings and stayed indoors.

For more info and free online quotes, please visit https://compare-autoinsurance.Org/the-advantages-of-comparing-prices-with-car-insurance-quotes-online/ The modern society has numerous technological advantages. One important advantage is the speed at which information is sent and received. With the help of the internet, the shopping habits of many persons have drastically changed. The car insurance industry hasn't remained untouched by these changes. On the internet, drivers can compare insurance prices and find out which sellers have the best offers. View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
