Northern lights expected to appear over these US states, here's when to watch

The Northern Lights return for an appearance on Saturday night's North America.

The states likely to see the natural light phenomenon, known as Aurora Borealis, are Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Michigan, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, a KP rating of four on a scale of nine was forecast for Saturday evening. This number means that the Northern Lights will be quite pleasant to look at because they will be brighter and come with more movement and formation.
