Sean Scully, Record
Wednesday was a good day.
It was one of the few days in recent months where I can honestly say “This was a fun day at work”.
It wasn’t because anything special happened or that we first appeared in the press.
Instead, it was because I was actually able to see at least some of the employees in person.
Editor Sean Scully says there’s no question the news industry is suffering, but not for the reasons you might think.
Like many companies, we have been operating largely remotely since late March. We had a few employees who couldn’t or didn’t want to work from home, so there is a structural staff in the office. The rest is scattered in a long line between Lake County and Solano County.
It mostly works well, except for a few technical bugs that make everyone log into the company’s servers remotely, and the occasional miscommunication where someone gets excluded from an email thread.
My office staff did a great job preparing reports and even obtaining photos and videos in these new odd times, and the production system worked incredibly smoothly.
For me, it went very well. I already got set up to run things from home (this is how we did things on the day of the 2014 earthquake, as the newsroom became an office outside my bedroom).
Editor Sean Scully remembers his famous next door neighbor.
However, I found it difficult to maintain personal contact with everyone.
I’ve never liked employee meetings – useless employee meetings have consumed so many hours of my potentially productive career.
But in a small organization like ours, it was easy for me to spend one-on-one time by simply wandering around the newsroom or walking into the Upvalley offices for a few minutes.
Despite this, a few weeks ago, our publisher compiled a photo montage for all employees, using selfies from their workplace at home. I realized there were a lot of employees working with me that I hadn’t spotted since sometime around March 20.
Despite growing up as a die-hard fan, editor Sean Scully says it is too late for the Red Skins.
I asked everyone to make an appointment for a while this past week so I can chat one at a time. We talked about how they were postponing, how their jobs were going, what their career plans might be, what stories they were working on, and all sorts of things.
A surprising number of them wanted to meet in person. I’ve been working in the Napa office once a week for the past month or so, and six or seven of them said they’d stop by my office on Wednesday when I was there.
We met with social distancing – I’m on one end of the 6-foot conference table and the employee is on the other. We were completely convinced.
And I was never happy to see them. Some of the employees who had been there this long said there hadn’t been much activity in the newsroom in months.
Editor Sean Scully discusses the causes and causes of the way we approach letters to the editor.
Not only did they come to see me, but they stayed with other employees (remotely and with masks of course) to catch up and enjoy each other’s company.
Humans, even introverts, are not built for long-term isolation. We need to see our friends and family, even if we can’t touch them. We need that little talk that seems aimless and squiggly at normal times.
It was the first time my office staff had come together, at least in bits and pieces, since March.
And he made Wednesday a really fun day.

For more info and free online quotes, please visit https://compare-autoinsurance.Org/the-advantages-of-comparing-prices-with-car-insurance-quotes-online/ The modern society has numerous technological advantages. One important advantage is the speed at which information is sent and received. With the help of the internet, the shopping habits of many persons have drastically changed. The car insurance industry hasn't remained untouched by these changes. On the internet, drivers can compare insurance prices and find out which sellers have the best offers. View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
