WHO and Patentic Boon Business announces the SPECANCE FOR FAST Diagnostic Testing Technology

The World Health Organization (WHO) and patent drug pool (MPP) announced today a agreement Between the Nigerian Health Technology MPP – Codix Bio – to start the development and production of fast diagnostic tests (RDTS) using the technology transferred from the global Vitro Diagnostic company – SD Biosensor (SDB). This agreement will contribute to the improvement of fair access to vital diagnostic tools through local production, spreading production capacity in the African region.

New RDT technology is especially useful for low and medium -sized countries (LMIC), as it is easy to use in healthcare facilities without the need for accessories. The tests are very sensitive and can generate results within 20 minutes. Codix will initially focus on the production of RDT for HIV, but technology can also be used for production tests for malaria and syphilis, among others. It can also be quickly adapted to other diseases, which will prove to be valuable during health emergency and pandemic, contributing to improvements of health safety and capital.

“RDT paneling technology indicates a major turning point in strengthening production capabilities in the regions they need the most,” said Dr. Yukiko Nakatana, who is Assistant General Director, access to medicines and health products. “This can help improve the global obligations set at the World Health Assembly in the 2023 year to promote a fair approach to diagnosis as a stone foundation for universal health coverage and willingness for pandemic.”

“We are delighted to have signed this first agreement on the RDT SUORCIS with CODIX Bio. Today marks a big step forward in diversifying diagnostic production and providing access to where it is mostly needed,” said Charles Gore, the patent drug director. “This shows how voluntary licensing and coordinated technology transfer can strengthen the manufacturers into LMIC, ultimately helping that the transformation of global supply chains become more fair and more resistant.”

A new beginning for htap

This agreement is the first to come out of a Nonexclusive, transparent license between SDB and MPP, which was agreed in December 2023 under the auspices WHO COID-19 Initiatives to access technology (C-TAP). C-tap has been developed since then as HTAP – Program of Access to Health Technologywith the aim of reducing jazz approaches in insufficient regions and countries by empowering capable local health product manufacturers (tests, vaccines, treatment and medical devices) through the restraint, technology and transmission of Know-How.

“The announcement of this Codix Co-Ocnation Agreement has indicated an important turning point in our partnership with WHO and MPP. By connecting technological transmission with coordinated support, this initiative not only helps Kodix respond to health priorities in Nigeria and the region of -one also shows that it is also ongoing that I Construction, and the incorporation, stated in construction.

After the open call of WHO and MPP was announced for producers based at LMIC, CODIX was selected as the first Suliceneee. “This oriented agreement is a decisive moment in our travel journey of health and technology innovation and a breakthrough for local health care production in Africa. Being chosen for the first Surmiscenee, according to this global initiative, emphasizes our obligation to contribute to the meaningful readiness of pandemic and safety of regional health care,” said Sammy Ogunji. “With the support of WHO and MPP, we are dedicated to creating high quality, fast diagnostic tests that can transform access to timely diagnosis, not only in Nigeria, but also on the whole continent.”

HTAP will coordinate the support of all and its partners, covering areas such as the development of labor, compliance with regulation and product intake. It also continues to evaluate for the potential other Sulicensee for this technology transfer.

Most LMIC relies on imports of health diagnostics. After fragility and high dependence on the supplies of imported health products during the Coid-19 pandemic and important lessons learned for regional health safety, there is increasing momentum to improve resistance to local production and supply, including institutions such as the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (African CDC), a global fund.

“The African CDC welcomes this partnership as a concrete example of how regional health security may look. Construction of diagnostic production capacities within the continent improves pandemic response and helps to build African health sovereignty. The strategic direction of the CDC reflected in this initiative, and Drs is ready for support and technical assistance,” PHA).
