Tyler, TX — Many companies and schools require everyone to check their temperature before entering, but experts say it may not be the best way to detect COVID-19.
Dr. Emmanuel Lonsdorfer works for Tyler’s Hospitality Health ER. He says that using his forehead to measure a person’s temperature is not always the most accurate.
“We use these temperature screens in the ER because they’re not as accurate as oral temperatures. Well, that’s different,” Dr. Ronsdorfer said.
High temperatures are considered above 100.4. Fever is a symptom of COVID-19, but it is also a symptom of many other viruses, including influenza.
“Even if you have body temperature, you don’t necessarily have COVID,” said Dr. Ronsdorfer. “Well, COVID is a virus. So it can be or can be caused by any virus.
