Rafik Hariri court: Proof of death of former Lebanese prime minister – BBC News

The long-running verdict came in the trial of four men who took part in the 2005 bombing that killed Lebanese PM Rafik Hariri and 21 other people. The defendants – alleged members of the Libyan Shia militant group Hezbollah – were tried in absentia by a special court in the Netherlands. The attack in Beirut angered Hezbollah’s Syrian aide after 29 years of pulling his troops out of Lebanon. Hezbollah and the Syrian government refused to take part in the attack. More than 220 people were also injured when an explosive-laden van exploded as the Hariri convoy passed through the shores of the Beirut coast. The assassination was an accident for Lebanon and within a few years formed the alliances that formed Lebanese politics. Subscribe HERE .
