Medical assistance requested for Venezuela after the earthquake

Over the past week, Direct Relief delivered 514 shipments of needed medical aid to 46 U.S. states and territories and 22 countries around the world. The shipments included 17.1 million specified daily doses of medicines

Medicines and supplies shipped this week included treatments for rare and chronic diseases, respiratory and mental health medications, personal protective equipment, and cold storage.

Critical medicines and supplies for Venezuela are beyond the scope of direct relief

Direct Relief’s response to the Venezuela earthquakes continued this week with medical aid shipments continuing to depart for local and regional health providers.

The organization’s immediate approach was two-fold: providing essential emergency funds to support responding groups and ongoing shipments of medical aid to meet patient needs and strengthen Venezuela’s health system.

Ordered items that left the Direct Relief warehouse for Venezuela this week include:

Field medical packs for first responders Essential medications to manage chronic conditions, including diabetes Water filtration supplies to prevent waterborne diseases Oral rehydration salts to support recovery from dehydration Medical tents to support patient care outside the facility walls Personal protective equipment for infection control and disease prevention

The organization will respond to the country’s medical needs as recovery continues.

Direct Relief midwife groups support safe births throughout Chad

The Ministry of Public Health and Prevention of Chad received a shipment of midwifery kits from Direct Relief in an official handover ceremony held on June 30, 2026.

The shipment included 70 complete midwifery kits and 41 midwifery replenishment kits – a total of 23 pallets. These kits are expected to support more than 7,200 births across health facilities across Chad, improving conditions for pregnant women and newborns as maternal and newborn mortality remains a major public health challenge.

Dr. Naima Haroun Saleh, Deputy Director General of Pharmacy, Drugs and Laboratories, noted that Direct Relief has provided medicines, medical devices, health equipment and basic inputs to Chad since 2024.

Minister of Public Health and Prevention, Dr. Abdelmajid Abderrahim, described these groups as a major contribution to Chad’s efforts to reduce maternal and child mortality and noted the importance of strategic partnerships in strengthening the country’s health system.

Support children’s dental care at Santa Barbara neighborhood clinics

On June 24, 2026, Direct Relief hosted a community event at Casa Dorinda, a retirement community in Montecito, California – not far from where Direct Relief was founded in the hills above Santa Barbara.

Residents of Casa Dorinda attended the event which included a presentation on the history and work of Direct Relief before participants assembled 300 children’s dental kits with supplies including toothbrushes, toothpaste and other care items for the children. Direct Relief staff then delivered 100 of the kits to Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics, or SBNC, a dental site in Milpas, which provides dental care to underserved community members including children.

Dr. Kumar, a dentist at SBNC, noted the value of these kits for patients and their families:

“These kits include high-quality products that always put a smile on the faces of our patients and their parents. They also allow us to provide products to families who might not otherwise purchase them, such as new toothbrushes and floss picks. We use them to demonstrate oral hygiene instructions before children leave for their appointments, as well as at school outreach events.”

Globally, Direct Relief has shipped more than 13.6 million defined daily doses of medications, totaling 89,039 pounds, to countries including the following:

Pakistan Ukraine Dominican Republic India Venezuela Uganda Zambia Syria since the beginning of the year

Since January 1, 2026, Direct Relief has delivered 11.6 thousand shipments to 2,168 partner organizations in 53 U.S. states and territories and 80 countries.

These shipments contain 166.4 million defined daily doses of medications valued at $973.4 million (bulk) for a total of 1.9 million pounds.
