Paper leaks are ‘not partisan’: PM Modi; wants the best lawyers to be hired to prosecute the guilty
The sentiments of the CJP protesters, who stormed the capital yesterday, resonated at the NDA party’s parliamentary meeting today, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling for the strongest possible action against those arrested in the NEET UG paper leak case.
Addressing members of the ruling dispensation, the Prime Minister listed the steps taken by the government to prevent recurrence of document leaks and said the matter was non-partisan and everyone should come together to work for the future of the country.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the Prime Minister also called for hiring top lawyers to ensure that those arrested for NEET UG paper leakage are given the strictest possible punishment.
“The Prime Minister explained how the government acted immediately after the leak and 13 people were arrested. He said that to avoid harm to the future of students, the NEET re-examination was given priority and was conducted successfully. The result was not delayed,” Rijiju said.
He added that the Prime Minister had said that paper leaks should never happen again.
“The Prime Minister said strong action would be taken against the accused. Those found guilty and those arrested will be jailed. The Prime Minister called for tougher action against them. He said top lawyers should be engaged to ensure that the prosecution puts forward its case forcefully against the leakers,” Rijiju said.
The minister said Modi also mentioned the steps taken by the government to prevent future paper leaks.
“The Prime Minister said paper leaks are not just a concern of the Centre. Whoever is involved in paper leaks across states should be punished. This is not a political or partisan issue. We need a foolproof system to prevent paper leaks,” Rijiju quoted the Prime Minister as saying.
The Prime Minister also spoke about the achievements of space start-up Skyroot, which has teams with an average age of 28, to showcase the capabilities of youth. He asked MPs to speak more about the country’s achievements.
Rijiju also said that the NDA would play a positive role in the monsoon session and pass the listed bills.
He called on the opposition to support “work for the future of youth”.
